The ability to enter data from remote locations is the latest feature of Flockdata. It currently works with Flockdata Layers, Breeders and Growers and is aimed at production companies with several remote sites sending information to a central location such as head office. Previously, data would have been mailed, telephoned, faxed or taken manually through to the head office where it would have been entered in to the main Flockdata software running on a PC or small network. Often, there can be delays in the data being sent to the head office and by the time it arrives it can be out-of-date. The new system records the data using specialist data input modules running on a PC or laptop at each site. The data is then sent via e-mail to the head office by the click of a mouse. Since the data is sent electronically it arrives at its destination very quickly. It is then imported into the main Flockdata database at the head office and the data can be available for analysis within minutes of it being sent in.

The small data input modules are installed onto a single desktop or laptop computer at each site. The computer must have access to the Internet and have a working e-mail account setup. The data input modules are user-friendly and simple to use. They can record performance data for all flocks on the site.

The main Flockdata installation also returns flock summaries back to the remote sites where they can be viewed from the same data input modules. Site managers can therefore view the latest, summarised performance figures for each of their flocks.

This method of data capture removes the need to install a full version of Flockdata at each site. It also allows data from several sites to be easily brought together into one location for detailed analysis.
