IntroductionFLOCKDATA GROWERS is a comprehensive Windows based software package for poultry growers to enable them to keep physical and financial records of their growing flocks whether they be broilers, turkeys or replacement layers. The system enables the performance of a flock to be compared to that of a target or standard. The system allows breed standards to be established for data values such as bodyweight, feed consumption, mortality and programmes for lighting, vaccinations and blood testing. Using the SystemThe system requires flocks to be set up at the start of the growing period. The housing date and age are entered along with the length of the growing period, the size of the flock, the breed of the flock and the house turn round time. Data relating to the shed sizes is held within the system. Once a flock has been established on the system information can be entered on a period or crop basis. The feed deliveries section records the type and quantity of feed delivered and how it is distributed between sheds. Details of deaths, culls and sexing errors are input into the losses section. The bodyweight section enables weights to be recorded on an as hatched basis or sexes separately. The costs section contains a comprehensive set of flock costing entries which can be customised by the user. The health section includes details of vaccinations, blood tests, salmonella screenings and medications given to flocks. The environment section is used to record data concerning lighting, internal and external temperatures, water consumption, relative humidity and carbon dioxide and ammonia concentrations. The depletions section records details of flock depletions including the number of birds sold and the income received. The bin stocks section records the quantity of feed remaining in the bin. Depletion and bin stock entries can be made at any time during the growing period. Data recorded in each production unit can now be entered into a handheld computer whilst still in the building. The handheld is then taken to the office and the data uploaded to the main database. Further information regarding the handheld module is available on the Handheld page. The program accommodates high intensity brooding by allowing flocks to be split during the rearing period. Feed prices are held centrally by the system rather than on a flock basis. It is not compulsory to input data into every section. It is the decision of the user as to what information is to be entered. All inputs are stored as raw data and can be amended at any time. ReportingThe program can produce a wide range of outputs in the form of reports, tables and graphs. Reports can perform calculations based on data from one period or cumulative data from the flock housing date. Outputs can be produced for single flocks or for all flocks in an enterprise. They include a flock performance summary comparing values with target data, feed delivery records, details of flock depletions, cash flow information, flock health records and details of the poultry shed environment. The system comes with a forecasting capability which can be used to predict future bird numbers, feed consumption and bodyweights on a flock or enterprise basis. Other outputs include a house stocking schedule, a raw data report and an end of flock health report. Flexibility of the reporting capabilities is a feature of the software. The program has the ability to produce graphs of virtually any data held within the system. The user can decide what to plot and the format of the graph. The graphics module has the capability of plotting data from several flocks and breed standards on the same graph. Data FilesAll data input into Flockdata systems is stored in data files on the hard disk. Should these data files be lost, accidentally deleted or become corrupt then weeks or months of data could be lost. For this reason all Flockdata systems include data backup and restore routines.
